The Renewed Mind - Changing Your Belief System

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Renewing the mind is a vital aspect of Christian growth and development. It involves changing one's belief system and thought patterns to align with God's will and purpose. In other words, it's about transforming one's mindset to be in harmony with God's truth.

The Bible tells us that our minds can be defiled by unbelief and wrong thinking. Titus 1:15 states that to the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. This means that our beliefs shape our perception of reality. If we believe in negative things, our minds will be filled with negative thoughts, which can lead to negative outcomes.

So how do we renew our minds? The Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 that we should not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This means that we should not allow the world's values, beliefs, and practices to influence our thinking. Instead, we should be transformed by God's truth and wisdom.

To renew our minds, we need to observe our thoughts and have an inner perspective. We must be aware of our thinking patterns and ask ourselves why we believe certain things. We should also make the object of our thoughts neutral and focus on what is good, true, and lovely, as Philippians 4:8 instructs.

Renewing our minds also involves choosing to believe the opposite of what we believe now. This means that we need to challenge our current beliefs and choose to believe God's truth, even if it goes against our current thinking. We must continue to choose to believe on purpose, without evidence.

If we struggle with a specific area of belief, such as healing, we should start with a perspective that is easier to believe. For example, if we cannot see ourselves going from sick to completely healed, we can start by asking ourselves if we can be healed, then progress to believing that we will be healed, and eventually declaring that we are healed.

Finally, we must remember that reading the Bible is not about intellectual knowledge but living from the inner man to experience the supernatural. As we immerse ourselves in God's word and truth, we will experience a transformation of the heart and mind, which will create a new lifestyle to live in.

In conclusion, renewing the mind is essential for Christian growth and development. It involves changing our belief system and thought patterns to align with God's will and purpose. To renew our minds, we need to observe our thoughts, make the object of our thoughts neutral, choose to believe the opposite of what we believe now, and immerse ourselves in God's word and truth. As we do this, we will experience a transformation of the heart and mind and live a new lifestyle in harmony with God's will.
